I created this blog for people thinking about competing in an Ironman Triathlon, or who in the midst of training. I’ve completed three Ironmans over the last 10 months, two 140.6 distance events and one 70.3 distance. Training for and completing my first Ironman was a life-changing experience, that’s been invaluable for me.
Just over a year ago, I knew almost nothing about the race, let alone the training and all the lifestyle changes that come along with it. When I tried to research what the Ironman journey would entail, I found little that was applicable to me, a normal person with two young children, a full-time (non athletic) job, and a life full of commitments. My goal is to provide a balanced perspective for others who are starting their Ironman journey, and to eventually create a community that can share advice and experiences with one another.
I should be very clear. I’m not a triathlon coach, and I’m not a seasoned professional. While I can’t necessarily provide expert technical or health advice, I can share what I’ve learned and what has worked for me. I’ll cover a wide range of topics, some of which are only tangentially relevant to the Ironman itself. When I started training I quickly learned that the Ironman is much more than a test of physical endurance. There are a host of other mental and lifestyle challenges that require focus. My hope is that we can navigate these together.
